TVD: What If Elena Had Met Tommy before Stefan?

You never forget your first love...

Just another "What if" scenario of what could have happened on The Vampire Diaries. We now know that Elena wasn't the only Amara Doppelgänger. Stefan was a Silas Doppelgänger and apparently these two carbon copies repeated the same love story for over 2,000 years. So if Stefan hadn't come to Mystic Falls but his other self, Tommy did or if Elena had met Tommy somewhere down the road then what would it have been like?

I thought they were on a "break"

Tommy and Stefan seemed to be (unlike Silas) pretty nice guys. Both were very empathetic (that could have been due to the fact that they were extensions of Silas himself so they would be able to not only be in tune with other peoples emotions but with him too and that could be why Stefan had a hard time controlling his hunger because Silas was a starving corpse). Tommy was a paramedic so he had that instinct to help people just like Stefan. And as much as we don't like to think that they're in any way alike, Katherine and Elena had some traits in common. Human Katherine wasn't that bad of a girl. She had a romantic view of the world believing love wasn't worth anything unless it was returned and that life without love wasn't worth living. Elena has that same view but she wasn't beaten down by cynicism for 500 years like Katherine was.

"I love you and always will..."

So if Elena had stayed human then maybe she would have met Tommy some day. Remember when Markos was messing with Elena and Stefan's heads by giving them dreams from an alternate time line where they were human, they fell in love, got married and even had kids? I imagine that it could have gone something like that. Yet I don't think they would have lived a life completely out of danger. If the Doppelgänger spell worked like I think it did then it could have been that Stefan would have been drawn to Mystic Falls. Then Elena would have had to deal with seeing double! It would have kind of been like when Katherine would sometimes mess with the Salvatore brothers by impersonating Elena. And Tommy and Elena are Doppelgängers making them highly valuable for powerful spells. And remember that Elena was also connected to the Original vampires in their creation so no doubt Elena would have been discovered by Klaus anyway.

It's over...

It seems that the Silas and Amara doppelgängers were born around the same time and were alive in the same time period. So there must have been an Amara doppelgänger during Stefan's time in the 1800s. They had just never met... yet. If Katherine didn't come to Mystic Falls then Stefan would have probably met the other Amara doppelgänger to enact that same tragic love story that Qetsiyah was sick of watching over and over again.

"I can't do this anymore, Elena."
"I know..."

We can drive ourselves crazy with "what ifs" but for the doppelgängers it doesn't change the fact that their romance always ended tragically. They never seemed to end up together although it's never gone into detail why. Silas and Amara were star-crossed lovers who were meant to fall in love then be separated by eternity. It seems very unfair but it explains why Elena and Stefan grew apart. They were meant to meet and fall in love but they were never meant to stay together. Tragic.

Hmmmm tough decision...
