TVD: What If Elena Had Left Town With Klaus?

What if...?
Life is made up of choices. I always wonder "If I had done this then..." but you could drive yourself crazy with "what ifs" but I can't help but wonder: What would have happened had Klaus succeeded in taking Elena with him out of Mystic Falls?

Who wouldn't want to run away with this guy?

I always liked how Joseph Morgan and Nina Dobrev had an interesting chemistry. I wish they had more scenes together. That aside, if Elena had left town with Klaus then she would have lived on the run. Klaus is used to living out of a suitcase even though he longed to find a place to call home. From the few scenes Elena and Klaus had in Mystic Falls, there were times where they traded positions in who was in control of the situation, who was on top, or who got the last word. Elena would be open to negotiations but she refused to show any fear. When Klaus was first settling into Mystic Falls and Stefan had stolen his family coffins, he kind of messed with Elena's head with having her followed and then at the bar he was very amused by Elena's bravery. Then when Elena gave Klaus back Rebekah she revealed that his sister knew what he did to their mother, prompting Klaus to keep the dagger in Rebekah longer. Then there was when Klaus kidnapped Elena when she was a vampire when she was going through a psychotic break. He put her on lock down and told her about a dark period in his life. He told Caroline that he thought about suicide once but it was Elena he told the story behind it.

Klaus's blood bag is in trouble

So pretty much Klaus and Elena had this back and forth spat going on followed by some degree of understanding. Elena is a compassionate person. Had she left with Klaus I think the immortal hybrid would have grown to enjoy Elena's company. And Elena being someone who takes pity on the cursed and the damned no matter what evil they've done, would have become a sympathetic ear. That's not to say that she wouldn't have tried to escape a few times. Elena may be a martyr but she's not the type to just sit there without thinking of escape. But I think Elena and Klaus would have grown to understand each other.

Elena the Princess

Then there's Elijah. Elijah expressed an admiration for Elena's compassion and degree of nobility. I don't think he would have fallen in love with her, given that she's a carbon copy of Katherine. Stefan and Damon may have been able to stop comparing the girls based on their looks but for Elijah I think it would have been too painful and we know that Katherine is the jealous type. Also I think Elijah isn't one to fall in love lightly. He's only been in love twice in his 1,000 years. He would have adored Elena and did all he could to protect her from Klaus's cruelty. Elena would have definitely leaned on Elijah for a sympathetic ear. Rebekah on the other hand would have stayed daggered, at least until Elena was dead and buried. At least that's what I think would have happened. I doubt Klaus would have left it to chance that his sister would actually follow his wishes.

Rebekah likes to hold a grudge.

Elena being who she is would have gained some admirers along the way. Maybe some hybrids or some human that Klaus would push so that she could continue the Petrova bloodline. But I also doubt that Stefan and Damon would have given up on trying to save Elena from Klaus's clutches. Klaus did mention to Stefan that when he took Elena with him he would let her decide which Salvatore to let come with them.

I would always take comfort in Elijah's loving embrace

I also wondered if Elena and Klaus had a hook up would she have gotten pregnant? No. Not going to go THAT far. So although it didn't happen that way, it's nice to imagine "what if". I do hope that Nina Dobrev and Joseph Morgan join up again on The Originals, as either herself or in a flash back as Tatia.
