Revolution: Bass & Connor with Unresolved Issues

Is the Father Son act over forever?
One of the things that sucked about the shocking cancelation was not being able to see Connor reconcile with his dad, Bass. We all saw how hurt Connor was when Bass chose Miles over him. We remember how in the Season 1 finale, Charlie was really angry and hurt when Rachel decided to turn the power on instead of helping Nora. Charlie felt that her mom chose Danny, her dead child, over her live one. Connor and Bass have a different relationship dynamic.

Weird love triangle here haha

When we first met Connor he was Nunez's number 2 and he had 30 men working for him. He felt on top of the world. Already we saw that Connor had great ambition to climb to the top. We know Bass as the kind of person who doesn't want power unless he has someone to share it with. If not then he doesn't much care and finds it pointless. But Bass saw that Connor wasn't really into having a father/son heart to heart. So it would make sense for Bass to offer Connor the one thing he believed he could give him: power. I think Bass felt that after a while, Connor would come to see him as a father instead of just a partner. Yet Connor already had 1 father figure disappoint him. Doubtful that he would jump into another father son relationship, even if Bass is his biological father.

Soap Opera moment!

But like I said, Connor had ambition. Charlie pointed out that Bass was a psycho killer (and we have to admit that's true no matter how sexy he is or how much we love him) but Connor saw this as something that could serve his desire to run the entire country. But another obstacle arose that Connor saw was a threat to his and Bass's plan for world domination: Miles. Connor saw how Bass's obsession with Miles was becoming a distraction. I suppose Connor even thought that if Miles was out of the picture, Bass would focus more on their goal to rebuild the Monroe Republic. Little did Connor realize that killing Miles would have sent Bass over the edge. Bass has been through hell but you know who was always there to pull him out of the flames? Miles. Connor didn't really understand that. I bet if Bass had told his son about how he lost his whole family in one tragic car crash and how his girlfriend and their baby died, Connor would have some idea as to why Bass sees Miles as more than just his best friend. Miles was basically Bass's emotional support system; chaos reigns but Miles was the only constant.

So Oedipus...

To Connor's credit, I see that he kind of admired the warrior his dad was. I saw that he even forgave Bass for essentially killing his mother. But I think when Bass offered Connor the world, he expected Sebastian Monroe the General and not plain old Bass the Man. So it wasn't so surprising to me that Connor let Neville try to make Swiss Cheese out of Bass after he chose Miles over his own blood.

Connor wants to be like the General, not the Man his father is.

If there had been a Season 3 then we would have seen Connor and Bass reconcile at some point or at least we would hope they would. What Connor really needed was not an empire but a real father. I believe Bass would have been a great dad. He used to be a decent guy. It's just that life kind of hit Bass hard and it's hard to keep a positive attitude when all that bad happens to you. So I hope we can relocate Revolution and resolve Bass and Connor's broken relationship.
