The Originals: Balance of Power Shifted?


Here's to a spectacularly boring evening... yeah right!
             Ever since Hayley broke the curse put on her werewolf clan she's been spending a lot of time in the bayou with them, especially with her supposed fiancé Jackson. Yet after last episode we've discovered that Jackson wants to be the superior species of the French Quarter. That would mean dethroning the Originals and subjugating the witches as well as the humans. So the question is how will New Orleans's supernatural community handle this new balance of power shift.
I suspect that these two may hook up in the future


Careful where you dip that paint brush, Klaus...

          Here's what's happening now: since Rebekah has exited the scene, Klaus has been brooding while also dipping his proverbial paint brush in a certain undead witch, Genevieve (much to Cami's dismay). The witches are back with their powers at full charge and are taking it out on the vampires who have been feeding on locals. All the while the Human Faction's leader Kieran is spiraling deeper into madness leaving his seat empty. Pretty much chaos, but Elijah decides: if Klaus won't take the reins of power (like he wanted to before Marcel's exile) then Elijah will. Of course he had to tear up the old rules set by Marcel and to Hayley's frustration the werewolves were not invited to the table. 
Jackson has his own plans in becoming king.


There may be trouble for the Haylijah ship
            Klaus suggests a party (of course what could go wrong at a party thrown by the Originals---remember their coming out ball in Mystic Falls?). Yet Klaus cornered Jackson (I suppose we call him the current leader of the werewolf pack) and gave him an option: Moonlight Rings. They're like sunlight rings that protect vampires from burning in the sun but the moonlight rings stop werewolves from turning on the full moon. Jackson sees this as an opportunity to not only become equals but superiors to the vampires, witches, and humans.

Jackson, stop blowing holes in my Haylijah ship!

        So with the werewolves back in town certainly there will be some tension. Yet Hayley's speech about wiping the slate clean really rang true (now that's a queen of New Orleans). Now I think there will be some sense of peace, but Jackson's plan may tear the fabric of that peace down. To be honest I like the vampires in charge. 
Hmmm a sexy werewolf or a sexy sophisticated vampire?

     Werewolves are more muscle than they are about politics. In other words, werewolves can be bullies. I don't believe having Jackson in charge of the whole community will be good for New Orleans. Same goes for the witches whose fanaticism will be the ruin of the city as well. The humans? Well their new leader who runs the casino I see hooking up with Elijah. I just see them together since Elijah has his honor preventing him from going after Hayley. I don't know how that will affect the balance of power but as they say: these strange times bring strange bedfellows.
One ring to rule them all...

Spot Light Review of The CW's "The 100"


          
The 100 on Wednesdays at 9 pm on The CW

           So I was going to watch something on Amazon but I remembered that The CW was premiering their new show The 100. So being a curious viewer I decided to watch and tweet live as the Pilot aired. 
Even I know how radiation works 

          The episode started pretty fast with only a short description of the situation then immediately rounding up all the teens like cattle onto a tiny ship headed to Earth which for close to a century has been radioactive (Hint, Hint World Leaders...). By the way I was wondering when "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons would play during this episode. Would have been disappointed if it didn't play. 
So far not a great start

         Symmetric songs aside, the characters have interesting chemistry. For some reason I want that blond girl Clark to hook up with Lord of the Flies instigator Bellamy. I don't know why but I see some sparks there. I know who I'm shipping this season! Then there's the lead female protagonist who has a boy's name: Clark. Is that as in Lewis & Clark? If you're going to give your daughter a boy name can it be Alex? I say that because Alex means "defender of man" but then again that would be predictable and watching this episode I can see that like my favorite show in limbo (Almost Human) the show seeks to break away from the pack. Certainly it's done somewhat better than Star Crossed premiere but let's be fair, that show aired during the Olympics which is TV suicide. 
The 3 adults who will decide the ship's fate 

         More on characters and names, Kane or Cane, however you'll choose to spell it on Twitter, will be our main antagonist. While the kids on Earth rage against the machine, the proverbial Cain (who doomed the human race according to the bible) will be doing some raging on the space station that is losing life support. Survival of the fittest is this guy's motto as he mentioned becoming the new Adam and Eve to his girlfriend who doesn't seem too happy about their relationship in either case. Kane does know about the incest factor of that story right? We all held our breath when Kane was interim Chancellor as Bellamy shot the current one (who is Wells's father and I'm guessing Clark's other love interest in her love triangle with Finn). Luckily the Chancellor is a trooper and stopped the execution. Now we all don't want Kane to sit in the boss's chair but we can expect him to still cause some trouble. I suspect that he wants the experiment the kids are doing on Earth to fail so he can kill 100s of people so they have enough life support for a remaining few.

        Earth has become an alien planet, which sort of makes this sic-fi show even more exciting. Octavia (this show's mean girl or Clark's frenemy) almost gets eaten by a weird eel-fish monster (it's always the horny teenagers who die first in a horror movie) and apparently there are hints of apes having evolved to become human intelligent to the point of neanderthal-like behavior. By that I mean throwing spears at people. Let's not also forget seeing that deer with TWO, count 'em TWO heads! Ewwww! Is it still safe to eat? 
Earth has become an alien planet
        All in all, this Lord of the Flies + Planet of the Apes = a pretty engaging sic-fi thriller that could make it to a season 2. I saw #The100 trending for a while in the United States, hopefully it'll keep that up. So many shows are getting cancelled that it would be a shame to lose another one. It looks like good bye vampires hello aliens, androids, and space ships!

Revolution: What Will the Nano Tech Do Now?





           Before Aaron figured out that the nano tech made itself known, it approached Aaron with a child like curiosity about it's creator. It took the form of Aaron's childhood friend then as Cynthia. People Aaron could feel comfortable with and can trust. However, after Aaron tried to destroy the nanos, they took the form of his worst fear: Dr. Horn. 

       Like Gloria said, the nano tech just wants to know who its parents are. They helped Aaron because they felt like they owed him that much for waking them up. Being an A.I. means that the nano tech can make its own decisions, sort out its own feelings, and decide what's right. Now that Priscilla and Aaron have made their feelings known about the nanos, I can only guess that Peter is the only one who will be able to continue working his "miracles" in Texas. However, I doubt the Patriots won't hear about this eventually and I wonder if they'll be able to manipulate Peter into working for them. 

      The last contact Aaron had with the nano tech, they messed with his mind (which was entertaining for us to see what may have happened if the power didn't go out: Monroe still friends with Miles and Rachel and that Monroe loves the Civil War). Yet how Aaron went out of that dream kind of changed his relationship with the nano tech forever. At first they kind of loved him (if that's what you want to call it) but now the last time they addressed themselves to Aaron, they took the form of the man he hates and fears. This leads me to believe that now the nano tech has some sort of animosity toward Aaron.

      Does this animosity mean that the nanos will cause trouble for Aaron and the team? Not really sure it would be directly. They said they would leave Aaron alone, but the last time they said that, the nanos didn't really keep that promise (seeing as they needed Aaron to fix them). The nanos for now seem only interested in helping their creators (right now Peter) but maybe in the long run they'll take Peter's "God-talk" seriously and start playing the part, which could spell doom for Peter himself. The nanos may decide that Peter is wrong and abandon him, choosing other "prophets" to be their mouth piece. We can only speculate this though. We'll discover more hopefully in a season 3 if NBC has decided to renew the show.

Almost Human: "Straw Man" Season Finale Review


Gather round folks for the season finale!

        Oh my god! The season finale was amazing! We finally got to know who John Kennex's dad was. The suspense of the review board on whether or not on keeping Dorian; nail biter! Very meta! 
It's not an episode without John & Dorian in the car!

       While the episode didn't reveal anything too big, we did finally get to meet John's dad. We discover that Edward Kennex was the reason John became a cop, but we kinda knew that already. What we didn't know was that Dorian is the reason John wants to stay a cop. I have to go "Awwwww" on this one. Really touching moment but that's what makes John and Dorian such an amazing partnership. The fact that John can open up to someone who doesn't have a pulse and for Dorian to have someone who doesn't view him as just a synthetic but also as a cop gives them a strong bond that will make both protect the other not just out of duty but out of real brotherhood. John and Dorian also on occasion like to bust each other's balls if you will (Dorian may not use his but it still smarts a little). John listed all of Dorian's mistakes (my favorite being when Dorian exposed himself in the car). Then John said, "I'm just messing with you, man." That's one of the elements of their strong bond.
Straw Man? I guess Tin Man was too complicated.

       This episode was very John-central. John expressed some hero worship of his dad. Super Man who? Even though Dorian suggested that maybe John was wrong about Kennex Sr. not being dirty, John didn't get mad. Dorian also didn't protest when John said he wanted to view his father's files alone. Like I said, these two have such a strong bond of brotherhood that they don't have to explain their feelings to each other; they just respect each other's privacy and know that the other one is there if the other wants to talk.

You never suspect the guy in the wheel chair

       I was wondering when we would run into a cyborg on this show. We have humanoid androids and people with synthetic body parts but this week's criminal had wires running through his body acting as an artificial nervous system. And an organic printer? When Rudy made that cupcake I thought: "I wish I had that now so I don't have to use an oven." In the future the homeless people problem has yet to be solved but at least nutrition stations have been introduced. Just a little finger prick and out pops a pill filled with the nutrients your body needs.
Why do I always play the hobo?

      Speaking of pricks, Detective Paul turns out not to be such a huge jerk after all. He had a fun conversation with a kid on the street. Nothing like a talking of "I'm sleeping with your mama" jokes to break the ice. Paul gave the kid some money from his bit-coin (which can I say is much more convenient than a credit card) so he could have a nicer place to sleep that night. I also want to point out that Paul is stuck playing the hobo again.

That MX is giving John the Evil Eye

     The real suspense in this episode was Dorian's evaluation. This is where it gets all meta. It felt like the whole show was being evaluated by FOX. Rudy suggested that Dorian act more like the MX's after Dorian got a call back (for electronics call backs aren't really good). Yet I'm glad the guy giving the final evaluation preferred Dorian to be his usual empathetic, calm self. I was so happy when Dorian was allowed to continue to be on the force with John. In the back of my mind I was thinking that if Dorian gets a renewal then FOX should do the same for Almost Human. 
"Gee I wonder what it is..."

       My favorite part of the episode was when Dorian gave John a new leg then started to cry after heard about John's glowing review of him. "I was made to feel, John" was my favorite line. Then they got a call and almost left John's gift behind, yet John went back for it with a smile on his face. Greatest ro-bromance ever! Well it's the only one really.

       All in all, a solid episode. It was more a procedural episode with no cliffhanger but I didn't mind that much. Although I wish that FOX would just renew the show already. Fans are very passionate about it and to be honest there are too many mysteries left unsolved for this to be just one season. The show has big potential to be a hit. It's popularity has been slow at the beginning despite all the money FOX put into advertisements for the show. Yet I think the fandom has grown considerably. I feel like FOX will renew it despite nay-sayers but if FOX does cancel it that would strike a blow to me as well as many others.

Why Fans LOVE Almost Human




          It's the season 1 finale of the cult classic Almost Human. I call it a cult classic because of how quickly I saw viewers take to the show. Already fans call themselves "Humaniacs"! While there was a severe fear of premature cancellation, there has been some cause for cautious optimism. Numbers for the show have remained steady while also steadily rising despite it running up against the Olympics. Even FOX executive Kevin Reilly has been recently talking about a possible renewal for Almost Human. So I decided my thoughts were not enough and instead decided to ask fans their reasons for loving this sci-fi buddy cop procedural.

FOX you have to renew this show! Please don't throw such a great piece out the window. It deserves at least a second season! The best SciFi I have seen in a long time

"Almost Human" is a smart, intimate and high tech -- I vote to renew for another season. We don't have enough tv like it.

 Kurt Schilling I really hope that this is renewed. It's rare that you get a great combination of great plots, witty dialogue, superior acting and fine special effects that are believable.

Sam O'Connor Why do I love Almost Human? It's an intelligent, darkly funny, sarcastically endearing show that proves that even with technology humans are still human. I love the camaraderie between the leads, and the premise of the show as a whole. It's a show that makes you think, makes you hurt, makes you want more.

Alex Iniguez This show brings movie level quality to the TV sci-fy genre and a quiet challenge to our preconceived notions about the future. The acting is great, the characters are fantastic and the mysteries from week to week are compelling.

Robin Gibbs I love Almost Human because of the great storyline. Each week it digs a little deeper into someone's past and just makes you eager to watch the next one to find out what's going on. That and Karl and Michael are so supremely enjoyable to look at. (Too far?) Hope not, because it's my favorite show and will be as long as it's on.

      Okay, you have to admit that is A LOT of love for Almost Human. #AlmostHumanLives has been trending in the U.S. You can't deny the passion of fans. I hope FOX takes this into account.
