Almost Human: Favorite Scenes: You Are Here

Today's weather a little sunshine followed by a hail of bullets

Still in limbo for what feels like forever, but I like to pass the time re-watching re-runs and if we never get a season 2 I would hope for at least a movie in the near future. But I won't depress you with thoughts like that. Instead I'll entertain you with my favorite scenes from "You Are Here".

"What do you think he wants to do to my ass?'
I can think of a few things I would do. Wink wink

John had really upped the laugh bar with his snark and snappy comebacks. In the anger management scene can I just say that the therapist running that session doesn't seem qualified enough to deal with anyone's anger problems let alone John's. But we know that John is also uncooperative when it comes to sharing his feelings, at least with people he doesn't trust or just met like his group therapist. I mean yeah the woman picked at a few old wounds however, John used his classic defense mechanism of being a smart ass:

"What about you, Anal? You good?" - John

"It's Aneal." - Aneal

"Okay..." - John

Don't make me scatter you all over the platform

John can keep it together until he faces an MX that is. As the MX wouldn't shut up, John scattered the android's hardware all over the platform of the train station. We know that John has a grudge against MXs in general but I know that as soon as that MX started trash talking Dorian (basically John's only best friend) that's when John flew off the handle. John won't admit that he shot that MX for Dorian but we know it's true.

"Hugs not Drugs"

Again, John's sarcasm hits the mark again when he and Detective Paul were getting a stern talking to by Captain Maldonado. Poor Paul. John's the favorite son in this police family while he always feels he gets the short end of the stick (pun maybe intended). When Paul threatened Dorian, John flew off the handle again. He doesn't want anyone making threats against his partner even if it's from another human police officer. John made a point to say that MXs aren't cops but "bullet catchers" and I'm inclined to agree after seeing "The Bends" way back. Dorian has caught a few bullets (especially during this episode) but he did it to save lives while MXs just stand there. I bet if Dorian was in that lab with Rudy while he practiced cooking the Bends then he would have gotten out of the way. So Dorian knows when and when not to take a hit. Back to the scene, Paul walks out making a slight threat against John and Dorian's ass but John doesn't take it seriously:

"We got a real problem here, John." - Maldonado

"I agree. I mean what do you think he wants to do to my ass?" - John

Maldonado is the boss. Don't forget that!

It had been a while since we last saw Reinhardt from the Pilot episode after he tried to storm the castle so to speak. Maldonado had been working on this guy for a while it seems and behind John's back. It was an intense scene where Reinhardt was goading John trying to bait him into snapping. But John kept his cool. Personally I don't think Reinhardt really knows anything. If he did and he works for a secret criminal organization that operates in the shadows, I doubt they'd let one of their own get captured or let them live as long as Reinhardt apparently did. It could be that Reinhardt thought he knew something. John not being one to negotiate with criminals as bad as Reinhardt didn't give into temptation even though it would have meant finding Anna sooner. John is not surprisingly hurt by Maldonado's secret interrogations but Maldonado has her reasons as well as good instincts. There seems to be a lot of evidence to go through down there and so a lot of dangerous stuff the wrong people would love to get their hands on.

A tub of ice cream & some vodka seems better medicine than the chair

The memory issue seems to hit home for John in this episode. He got into a deep conversation with the victim, Kiera Larsson about getting her memory scrubbed in order to stop the arms dealers from trying to kill her. For John it's not really a problem of forgetting, it's a problem of trying to find the memories he has lost in order to find out how the ambush went wrong. John comes off as a bit of a hypocrite in this episode. He doesn't agree with going to a memory scrubber but he agrees with going to a recollectionist? Some would argue that that's different but I would argue that both are illegal and John is a cop! I guess we all do what we feel we must do in order to protect ourselves or find out the truth even if that means breaking the law.

"Thanks for not shooting any MXs today, John."
"Well, the night is young."

I loved that cute scene between Stahl and Kennex when they were exchanging "gifts". It was kind of like watching high school kids flirt with each other which was sweet. Valerie gave John an energy chew (it looked like a Swedish Fish to me; probably was) and John wrote something down on a piece of paper with a pen. Apparently pens have become almost obsolete in 2048. Congrats, tablets of every kind you killed the pen, but I guess you also saved the trees. What bothers me about that scene is that we'll never know what John wrote down or sketched on that piece of paper that made Valerie laugh. I would have hoped it was his phone number but I doubt it. Yet I thought the scene very romantic.

Subtitles please...

Next "Favorite Scenes" will be about episode 9, "Unbound" where Dorian meets his maker.
