The 100: The Bellarke Ship May Be Taking Off!

Supposed to be a shower scene but it was too cold....

I think with each passing episode the ship favorite of The 100, Bellarke is slowly going from a fan fantasy to a written reality. Bellamy and Clarke are getting closer as problems for the Ark and the war with the Grounders seems imminent. They begin to rely on each other more but will this lead to a mutual partnership or a romantic partnership?

"Oh and uh... I have a girlfriend on the Ark..."

Clarke and Bellamy were at odds at the start of their journey to survive on Earth. Bellamy was "no rules but mine" and survival above all kind of guy which clashed with Clarke's intact morality and protect others but also your soul kind of girl. Both are leaders in their own way. Immediately the other kids started looking at Clarke and Bellamy as their guides but on opposites sides of the camp. People were unsure who to follow but now that Bellamy is letting Clarke in on whatever mission or meeting they have and Clarke is relying more on Bellamy's brutal tactics, people are beginning to see them as a team even though Bellamy and Clarke aren't calling it that. Even the insult of calling Clarke "Princess" has gradually turned from disdain to light teasing and affection.

Sparks are flying!

These characters' personalities compliment each other so well that together they would find a balance neither has known before in their lonely chaotic lives. Clarke is gentle, altruistic, believes in rules (on occasion unless it threatens someone's life), selfless and thinks with her heart but her passion can cause more hurt than good. Her anger over Wells's death started a murderous mob that lead to a young girl committing suicide. And she is very stubborn so it takes her long time to forgive someone, even her own mother. Yet she has a streak of mercy in her too that allows her to make hard choices like when she put Atom out of his misery when he was suffering from the acid fog. Then there's Bellamy who is tough, bold, an all around Alpha Male who believes that if you can't keep up then fall behind so the rest can move forward. But that brutality does damage. His no rules policy lead to chaos and his willingness to let the weak die and take no risk in saving lives makes him scary and could be used against him. Yet Bellamy's logic can cause him to fear; in fact, Bellamy feels it's his emotions that will get him killed. He let his sympathy for Octavia get her caught and his mother killed. Despite Bellamy's macho persona he doesn't have a killer instinct.

Pack lots of nuts!

Clarke and Bellamy do have things in common as they get closer. Both have a huge heart. Bellamy can't bear to take a life of people close to him or even people he knows. During "The Day Trip" Bellamy was tripping on those freaky nuts and we saw his guilt in how his fear lead to the death of over 300 people on the Ark. It really tortures him. And Clarke's big heart stresses over not her own survival but the survival of others. If someone of the 100 dies or is seriously injured she takes it hard even if it's someone she doesn't like at that moment. She was really hurt by Finn lying to her about his girlfriend, Raven, but she would have been more devastated if he had died. Clarke and Bellamy need someone to rely on emotionally or else they feel lost. They both have this instinct to protect although they have different methods and ideas on how to do that.

The sexual tension here is heating up

With Finn, Clarke saw someone who she not only could rely on but also someone who shared her vision of a new peaceful society that they could build on Earth. Finn strengthened Clarke's formidable morality core. He tempered her sometimes unruly passion. But once his deception was revealed, Clarke felt betrayed and I think she began to feel that she can't rely upon him to help her build a society. I also feel that Finn was too much like Clarke; he didn't challenge her, but Bellamy does. Bellamy's bad behavior was not something Clarke was about to tolerate. Yet I saw especially on "The Day Trip" that Clarke had a habit of projecting her own fears onto him. They both discovered that they were running away from their problems instead of facing them. In each other they discover a strength that the other may draw from in order to face the day. Clarke and Bellamy point out each other's flaws and shove cold truth in the other's face but this brutal facing of fears leads to them wanting to overcome those same fears.

"Yep I'm just gonna let this happen..."

No water boarding?

I see where Finn's fears are coming from. He sees Bellamy leading Clarke down a dark bloody road where there's no coming back. Clarke is beginning to trust Bellamy more than Finn even if Finn is being honest and sometimes right. Clarke brought back guns to the camp, she let Bellamy torture someone, and she went behind Finn's back and told Bellamy to bring weapons to the Grounder Peace talks. Of course Jasper fired off the first shot, which in retrospect we see that bringing weapons was not a good idea. Still we discover that Bellamy is watching Clarke's back and she will do the same for him if it's called for.

In the scene where Bellamy and Clarke are talking about Unity Day in the episode "Unity Day", it was supposed to be of Bellamy in the shower but unfortunately it was too cold to film. This could be a hint from the writers that maybe Bellamy and Clarke are headed for a romantic relationship. Whether or not Bellamy and Clarke are a good match (and they are) I can't imagine them without each other. They are a dream team, a perfect power couple that may turn into not only a political match but a romantic one.
