Where's the other Aryan Stooge? |
It's MX Ken! |
Again the first scene where John and Dorian start their day is my number one favorite scene of this episode. Although Dorian is the punctual one of the pair, this was the first time our lovable android had kept John waiting. So John ventures down to see how the synthetic half lives. He was certainly shocked to see an MX Ken doll! Later in the car, John's encounter in the locker room is still seared into his brain. Of course this leads us to wonder what is Dorian sporting under the hood? Well we found out as Dorian in those "child-like" moments just unzipped and whipped out his equipment. John suffered from penis envy and Dorian doesn't even use his! But then we suddenly switch into bromance kidding mode where Dorian teases John about his crush Detective Stahl even imitating her voice, which made John chuckle.
Jealous... |
I love John's sweet flirty moments with Valerie Stahl. "I got an eye for you"? Cheesy yes but John's old fashioned. We also learn something new about Stahl, which for John is a pleasant surprise: Valerie is a soccer fan. This makes John a little more attracted to her. More intimidated? Not sure. Not likely but this scene will have more significance later on.
"You're aura is quiet and peaceful..." |
John isn't one to believe in daily horoscopes, even less in people who claim to hear voices from the beyond even if they went through the Cerebelix Procedure. Manufacturing psychics for you in 2048. The procedure is new and unproven but our witness Maya Vaughn had it and the side effects were being able to speak to the dead by touching something that they touched. Dorian was fascinated but John wasn't so convinced. Maya's whimsical nature gave Paul the slip and made John have to share a space with Maya for a bit as they drove her to a victim's house. On a side note: Jay walking is still a crime in 2048? Anyway the car scene was priceless. John can't stop making snarky comments. While Dorian is very fascinated by Maya's aura reading.
"Every time we touch I get this feeling..." |
Maya and Dorian's scene in the hospital was a very tender moment. Dorian is still struggling with the idea of dying or accepting it. I think the reason why Dorian was so scared was because being that he's an android he would just die and not pass on anywhere. But Maya's sad story about her parents dying and wanting to communicate with them only enforced John's statement that as long as people remember you you're never really gone. I loved it when Dorian held Maya's hand. Such an empathetic moment between two beings who have a huge amount of empathy.
"Holler-gram" |
I didn't want to forget Maldonado. We got to see her a little closer this episode. We know that Maldonado is a tough cookie but like all women she has her insecurities. That douche bag Avery pulled some Hannibal Lector crap on her by picking her apart piece by piece. Then later she's in her office and sees that Avery was right.
"I'm just as pretty as those girls..." |
She's a single woman who's life is her work but she's not really appreciated for it. She wishes just one guy would look at her not as a police chief but as a woman. In a later scene we see that the cute Prosecutor really does see her more than a police chief. Not only does Maldonado get Avery behind bars and takes him apart verbally (poetic and real justice), she also is seen as a woman.
Dorian didn't know he could that either. |
Who knew Dorian could flip a van? It's the little snippets of Dorian that we see him at his most surprising. As the Avery clones try to escape, Dorian is hot on their tail and then suddenly flips their getaway van over. Then it explodes but every one is surprised to see that Dorian can flip cars.
"The Prosecutor's last living witness belongs in a puzzle factory..." |
Dorian's last scene with Maya is him giving her some closure about her parents' death or just giving her the remains of her house that she grew up with her parents in but was lost in a fire. Maya cold suddenly speak to her parents again. Dorian now holds firm to the idea that one doesn't need to be flesh and blood to have a soul. He doesn't need to move onto another place as long as there was some memory left behind he would live on.
"People running..." "Yeah... it's soccer..." |
Remember when I talked about that flirty scene between Stahl and Kennex? Well the final scene is John catching the last few moments of the game. Stahl walks in with "what": Bourbon; John's drink of choice. John suddenly realizes that Maya's vision of seeing someone very special running towards him smelling of bourbon was right. John may not be a total believer but some hope is restored in the matter of his love life.
One for the road lol |
