The Originals: Lower Numbers Than TVD?

The King & Queen of New Orleans need an army.
Will you join them?
Recently I saw an article that said the TVD spin off The Originals didn't do so hot in viewership last year. WHAT?! Apparently while The Vampire Diaries started off with 4.25 million, The Originals only had 2.21 million. Not a bad thing for a spin off but seriously?

Sorry but Klaus & Elijah are by far the sexiest brothers.

Although I love Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley, I'm beginning to look more forward to the return of our lovable hybrid in the Big Easy than to boring Mystic Falls (that's right I said boring!). Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) are becoming my new favorite sexy brothers. And Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin)? She's a much feistier brunette than Elena. Sure Elena has compassion and a certain spark but Hayley is fierce, a roaring fire and as a character is much more intriguing and dynamic than Elena's character. Yes our darling Barbie Klaus has left the scene and has been bumped down to a recurring character but to be fair Claire Holt wanted to branch out. She didn't expect to be Rebekah this long. Rebekah is raising Klaus's daughter, Hope and will feature in the premiering episode "Rebekah's Lullaby" where Rebekah rocks baby Hope to sleep with a fairytale about Mommy and Daddy being the King and Queen and the evil (I know stones, glass houses) beasts trying to take over the kingdom.

A fiery brunette with attitude who doesn't take anyone's crap.
Yes Hayley is my favorite over Elena.

Between The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, The Originals is a much darker and more mature vampire show just as Angel was a darker, edgier show more than Buffy. You have actors in their 20s and 30s playing teenagers who apparently manage to break into their parents' liquor cabinets and get drinks at the bar while being under age. I guess it pays to have a vampire boyfriend and parents who pay more attention to having secret meetings than supervising their kids. Speaking of bad parenting, Klaus and Elijah's parents are down right scary. You've heard of some species of insects devouring their young? They're very wicked and monstrous, reaching into your soul and twisting it into knots every time you see Esther or Mikael. We feel more sympathy for our Original vampires than we do our Mystic Falls vampires because at least in Mystic Falls, the parents and their kids manage to work it out but Mikael and Esther are more intent on solving the problem by murdering their offspring. It makes you wonder what is going through Mikael and Esther's mind that makes them believe this is okay? Maybe because they're from a different time period where mercy was a luxury they couldn't afford.

This ship just crackles on screen more than
Damon and Elena

Even the goals and personal drives of the characters have far more appeal than in Mystic Falls. New Orleans is not only a real city but it's rich in history. New Orleans is one of the most violent cities in the United States and everyone wants to sit on the throne. The factions, the intrigue, the flashbacks, and everyone fighting for the crown? Very Game of Thrones. Mystic Falls? School dances go horribly wrong. That's it. It's basically every B-Rated horror film that takes place in a small town. No one wants to rule this little town of Virginia except perhaps Markos from season 5 but it still doesn't make sense to want to be in charge of some town that has no outside influence whatsoever. New Orleans has a port, tourism, and many secrets that make it a prime spot for city domination. As far as riches and prestiges go, New Orleans was a far better and more desirable spot for Klaus and his family to settle down.

Raise your glass and toast to our new favorite fanged heroes
or anti-heroes I guess.

Tuesday was the highest rated day of The CW's week last year with The Originals at 8 and Supernatural at 9 but for some reason the executives decided to shake things up by having The Originals moved to Monday at 8 with Jane the Virgin (gag me) at 9 then premiere The Flash on Tuesday at 8 before Supernatural at 9. I suppose they're hoping since Supernatural has high numbers it'll help The Flash. Ways we can up The Originals viewership is to check in on tvtag.com when watching live as well as tweeting live with The Originals hashtag, give each episode a high rating on IMDb.com, and keep up the buzz about the show before, during, and after the season. The Vampire Diaries has been signed for 6 seasons so it would be up to the actors and executives at The CW if they want another season otherwise The Originals could take their place and become a bigger success. The Originals return October 6 Monday at 8pm don't miss it!
