When Damon and Caroline first met it was a case of abusive boyfriend and insecure girl too scared to do anything about it. Caroline liked Damon and he took advantage of that and he used her as his personal blood bag. I understand how Caroline could hold a grudge against Damon but her constant harsh opinions are getting tiresome.
Ever since Elena became a vampire and started showing feelings for Damon, Caroline has been running a campaign against the bad boy Salvatore. Caroline refuses to believe that Damon has changed for the better and she continue to believe that Damon is turning Elena into a person she doesn't recognize; also she attributes Elena's behavior to the sire bond. She voiced this very opinion after Elena staked Jesse when he was trying to rip Damon's throat out. I disagree. When Elena became a vampire, her feelings for Damon were magnified as was explained in a previous episode when Damon and Stefan went to New Orleans. But also, Stefan is Caroline's best friend and naturally she would want him to win Elena's heart.
Yes, Damon has done horrible things but let's be honest, almost every character has blood on their hands. Still, Damon is making a real effort to be the boyfriend he believes Elena deserves. I mean, to try and out-do a boyfriend like Stefan is hard work. Naturally Damon will feel insecure; hence the reason why Damon began keeping things from Elena to spare her pain where as Stefan would have tried to help her through it. I guess you can say Damon is new to the whole "coping through confronting a painful situation" rather than actually dealing with the problem. Damon showed real character development when it came to Elena's needs. It was a real struggle for him not to be selfish with her. He even tried to push her away when he discovered the sire bond between them. Yet Elena was stubborn and she chose Damon regardless of the sire bond. Damon may stumble but he's really trying for Elena's sake.
Caroline is still a baby vamp and hasn't lived long enough to realize that people can change. I like to point out that she's giving Klaus a chance by being his friend despite all the bad he's done to her. I fail to see the difference between her bad experiences with Klaus and Damon. It could be that Caroline has some undeniable feelings towards Klaus but she won't admit to that right now. All Caroline will end up doing is pushing Elena away, ending their friendship. This almost happened with Elena and Bonnie but Bonnie swallowed her pride and kept her mouth shut and she and Elena are closer than ever. It may be that Elena and Caroline have always had friction between them. Caroline has shown that she was always envious of Elena, making her feel insecure especially when Caroline started dating Matt, Elena's ex. Yet I hold out hope that Caroline will grow up and trust Elena's judgment and be there if there's a fall out. That's really all a friend is supposed to do.
