The Vampire Diaries: "50 Shades of Grayson" Review

       Warning: SPOILERS!!!!

Now that I gave you a warning I may continue my excitement and outrage following TVD's mid season finale.

When I said I'll try bondage, this is NOT what I meant

First off, Katherine and Stefan's not-so-surprising hook up was dampened by Katherine discovering some new white high lights. The sex was so good Stefan turned Kat's hair gray! Damon had the misfortune of meeting Katherine on her way out to try and slow Death down with a work out. She doesn't know the meaning of the term "Walk of Shame" as she bragged about her steamy fling with the younger Salvatore. It used to be Damon would have been jealous but he just wanted to hurl with disgust. He also had more important things to worry about like his girlfriend being held hostage by a mad scientist.

Give this girl a paper bag

So Katherine tries what most women her age try and that's fight off aging and potentially death. Funny that she'd turn to Matt for help. She says she's paying him, but with what money? She is Mystic Falls' homeless person.

Every girl needs a hot instructor

But Katherine gets a rude shock as the daughter she tried to push away comes back to try and help her cold calculating mother. Nadia first bitch slaps Katherine for trying to kill herself again and not even saying good bye. I thought the suicide note was a good bye. I guess Nadia prefers face to face. Then she offers a seemingly simple solution, being that Katherine's father was a Traveler (a.k.a. a sort of gypsy witch) perhaps Katherine can use a spell to put her spirit in another body like Igor did with Matt. But Katherine being vain and stubborn pokes holes in Nadia's idea, mostly believing that she has a shot with Stefan. Yeah right Katherine. I doubt the sex was good enough to make Stefan forget all the bad you've done. So after Stefan crushes Katherine's dreams of getting back together, she decides that switching bodies may not be so bad after all.

Count back from 10...

Elena is strapped to a table in some creepy basement with Dr. Wes Maxfield. When Elena thought of having some private sessions with the hot professor it was nothing like what she pictured. Perhaps less needles and knock out gas. To make matters worse, Elena has the disturbing revelation that her saint of a father was one of the doctors that experimented and practically tortured other vampires. But I think compared to Wes, Grayson is Mother Theresa as he only wanted to use vampires to cure diseases, while Wes is more Dr. Mengele in experimenting on vampires for darker purposes.

Worst flu shot ever.

The darker purpose being that he wants to make a vampire that only hungers for vampire blood, which consequently turns them into Rippers. He was about to turn Elena into a monster like Jesse, but luckily Stefan rescues her just in time. That was a nail biting moment when Wes had the syringe embedded in Elena. Thank God, Elena has a killer head butt before Dr. Kevorkian could inject her.

Tip: go for the head next time you shoot me

When the Salvatore Brothers get together they are double trouble. Stefan was not as sympathetic as he used to when he has to use Wes's ward, Aaron as leverage in order to get Elena back. For the love of Elena, Damon and Stefan scare the pants off of the confused Aaron.

Revenge is best served cold

Yet Damon runs into a ghost from his past, Enzo, a fellow Augustine vampire that Damon left to die in the fire, or so he thought. I forget how many skeletons Damon has stashed in his closet. Stefan does too as when Aaron tells him that Damon has been systematically killing off the Whitmore Family for 60 years, always leaving one survivor to carry on the family until he kills them too.

The Salvatores together are unstoppable

Elena is a little tied up right now. Can I take a message?

Stefan then becomes the compassionate vamp we all love him to be and decides that Aaron has had enough torture from vampires today. Who would have thought that all Stefan had to do was be a decent person and Aaron would give him what he needs to find Elena.

My hero!

Damon has a violent confrontation from his old cell mate. Was it just me or did Damon seem remorseful for what he did to Enzo, even though he didn't really think about what he did to Enzo because he switched off his humanity? Damon refused to brawl with the vengeful lab rat. Still even though Damon could have just killed him, he instead gave him the antidote that restarted his heart. No forgiveness here but vampires have centuries to make up for their mistakes. Maybe Enzo will forgive Damon eventually.

To think yesterday you thought vampires were a horror movie

Paging Dr. Kevorkian...

Finally, Aaron decides that not all vampires are evil and super pissed that his guardian treated his life so callously as to send Enzo to kill Damon but that would leave Stefan to taste Aaron's liver. So as Wes was recovering from the wicked head butt, Aaron tells him to scram and that he never wanted to see or hear from him again. Yet Aaron took the full syringe. You have to wonder who he intends to use it on as we have to assume that's the reason he took it. Damon perhaps? Most likely.

Yet the most shocking and outrageous event that happened was the break up of Damon and Elena! Stefan and Elena's romance gets 3 and a half seasons but Damon only gets half?! No way! Points to Elena for seeing past Damon's serial killer attitude but Damon can't get past that Elena can get past it. So he plays self-sacrificing hero and breaks off the relationship. You can bet Caroline will be thrilled. How will Stefan feel? I hope Julie Plec can give Delena a full season.

I think I'd have a heart-attack!

So the cliffhanger TVD has left us with is Katherine having a heart attack. Next year comes the 100th episode and most shows who reach their 100th episode like to do a nostalgic piece, looking back on how far they've come and what challenges they faced. Will the 100th episode be a memorial for the infamous Katherine Pierce? Well if it is then Nina Dobrev will get a break from playing two people. Until next year I shall get nostalgic myself and watch some re-runs from season 1 to season 5.
