Revolution: The Bass & Rachel Question

Welcome to Bizzaro World, Aaron

Suffering from "Revolution" withdrawal I've been thinking a lot about the characters I'll miss and the relationships I saw happen on the show. Probably one of the most tragic relationships I've seen was between Rachel Matheson and Sebastian Monroe.

Where'd the beer go?

The "Dream Catcher" episode was kind of like an alternate timeline. What if the power never went out? Monroe showed up at Miles's motel room with a pizza and beer and he and Rachel were getting along.

Motel Scene:

Bass: "Oh what the hell? Rachel, I just came back to town to stop this guy from stalking you. You can help me by not stalking him back." (Kisses her cheek and gives her a friendly hug) "It's good to see, ya."

"Wow the Blackout must suck for you."-B
"Yeah I lost some stuff."-A

Yes, that did seem weird to us. But given where we started on Bass and Rachel's interaction in Season 1 we didn't really think of them as being friends or even close to that. Rachel said that Bass used to be just a womanizing drunk that she liked a whole lot better than the general dictator he became. I doubt that was mostly sarcasm. I'm sure that they got along pretty well. They both cared about Miles and Bass used to be the supportive wing man who didn't meddle in Miles's love life. In Season 2 we see Bass kind of get in the middle of Miles's relationship like a jealous ex, trying to drive a wedge between his wing man and Rachel.

Dammit we're foes again.

If the power never shut off and none of this horrible stuff had happened then Rachel and Bass would have remained friends and possibly never would have slept together. Bass may have even met a girl and had a family of his own. But we can drive ourselves crazy with "what ifs". In the end, Rachel kind of forgave Bass if just a little. I still see these two fighting in the future (if we can get Revolution moved to another network) but I think too much has happened between them for them to ever become friends again. Yet who knows, she forgave Miles after all he'd done to her but maybe that's a little different because she's in love with him.
