Arrow: Thea Merlyn?

Uh-Oh it's Pyscho Killer Daddy

Just watched the Arrow Season 2 finale and have to say that I'm impressed. Especially since Thea is going off on her own but she chose to go off with her bio sociopathic daddy Malcolm Merlyn.

Mom may have lied but she was a better parent than Merlyn

Okay I really hate Malcolm Merlyn but I was actually glad to see him again. Slade was a great villain and all but Malcolm Merlyn was just the right balance of Psycho and just plain emotionally broken human being. In super hero sagas the villain is usually a mirror image of our hero; a fun house mirror. Villains have gone through similar trials as the hero but have taken a completely different lesson from them and made bad choices while the hero was tempted to do what the villain had done but didn't and always the villain is who the hero has potential to be and that's always a fear. Merlyn is not just like Oliver with his weapon of choice but because they both are killers but Oliver wants to be reformed while Merlyn sees murder as the only choice.

Cool but can he do that with a fly?

When Thea found out that Malcolm Merlyn was her biological father she felt like she lost her identity. She didn't know who she was: a Queen or a Merlyn? Either way she felt she was cursed because both parents were murderers. But we know that Thea has a strength in her that she doesn't know she has. She still struggled with her identity, even more so when she discovers she has been lied to by everyone she loved including Roy. Also on a side note: Thea almost made out with her half-brother, Tom!

Perfect moment about to be ruined...
Thea has such a big heart that she trusts easily but also she gets hurt easily. This pain can blind her to what's in front of her. Oliver told Thea that Arthur knew the entire time that Thea wasn't his biological daughter but he still loved and cared for her, raising her as his own, but Thea only saw how Arthur lied to her. I admit that pisses me off but from Thea's point of view I can see where she would become even more confused.

"Come on let's kill together." "Ummmm No"

Now Merlyn returns and he wants to become a father again to Thea. I hated how Merlyn called Tommy weak when he refused to shoot his own father but Thea didn't. If anything that only proves that Tommy was a better and stronger man than his father was or ever gave him credit for. And Tommy deserved a better father than Malcolm. Yet Thea was broken and alone, feeling like she had to become a stronger person so she will never get hurt again, unfortunately she thinks going with Merlyn will help her do that. I can't help but fear that she'll face Oliver one day when he's the Arrow and it will cause a huge fall out, turning Thea into one of his worst enemies. I hope that doesn't happen but I don't know what the writers are thinking at this time.

Some crazy people just won't die

Malcolm Merlyn feels he can get another chance at being a father but I think this will backfire on him in some way. If Thea has the guts to pull the trigger on her biological father than there's no telling what she's capable of doing. What if she decides to blow him to pieces? I doubt daddy will like that. I just hope Thea doesn't call Malcolm dad. Despite the lies, Arthur's fatherly love for Thea was 110% real. Arthur is her real father no matter what DNA tests say. I hope Thea will overcome her personal insecurities and realize that her real family was always the Queens. But right now she has to discover her true self. She doesn't have to be a Merlyn or a Queen but realize that she is herself not a family lineage.

She was happier as a Queen.
