The Vampire Diaries: Give Up the Ghost Or Not

There were things I liked about The Vampire Diaries premiere while there were some things I didn't like. Our fanged heroes are back but fractured and scattered.

Yes more blood and violence please!

 What I liked about it:

       1. Elena going homicidal instead of suicidal like Bella from Twilight after her boyfriend "left her" still keeping SOME piece of her dignity as she "grieves". Luke is Elena's dealer, guilt tripping him into feeding her some herbs. At least Elena has a bit of fire but hopefully she pulls it together.

       2. Craig Ferguson comes to Mystic Falls to head the Neighborhood Watch! After seeing him mostly on SyFy I was happy to see Craig Ferguson visit the town which is currently fang free. And I sense his character is going to be trouble for our vampire friends.

       3. Some may disagree but I like how Matt is taking a more active role in protecting the human residents of Mystic Falls. As much as he loves his vampire friends, Matt is tired of seeing innocent (if not random) people getting killed by them. I feel like the writers should use this feeling to give friction to his friendship with Caroline who is trying to find a way to get back into Mystic Falls.

Here catch up on some summer reading

       4. Alaric is still an Original Vampire. I say Original because he has the power to compel other vampires so he's pretty powerful. After being so long without him, Alaric has returned and has decided to teach college students instead. But why he has to chaperone a college party I have no idea. We all know what goes on in college and since these kids are legal drinking age (kids get liquor either way we've found on TVD) so no need to supervise; they're adults. Still happy to have Elena's guardian back and I feel that they'll be closer than ever this season.

You're on your own dude

        5. Jeremy may be falling back into his emo stage but a bit cooler. Random hook ups, video games, and potato chips. At least he's not doing drugs again or being suicidal. Matt thought Jeremy could help by using his "hunter" skills but given that the Brotherhood of the 5 were made by witches using spiritual magic and that is no longer allowed in Mystic Falls, Jeremy is just a regular teenager not too concerned with personal hygiene. I liked that he's just kicking back right now. Let Matt become the new hero and let Jeremy grieve for his girlfriend.

Tyler is magically a douchebag again.

         6. Elena finally picks a major. She's going to medical school. Interesting choice. Easy access to blood bags and she can just use her blood to heal people but does she really need a degree for that? She can't compel herself a Harvard degree in medicine? I suppose she needs some background information and let's face it, she needs the distraction. But hopefully she can control herself around the patients.

         7. Damon and Bonnie are alive? Apparently they're doing a Groundhog's Day thing where they relive the same day over and over again I later found out. I was wondering how they would be getting Damon back. He's the Batman to Stefan's Superman. Bonnie also needs to get back, stat! She's the only witch I actually like (with exception of Davina from TO).

Can't she mourn like a normal person? Random sex with strangers
then ripping people's throats out

 Things I Didn't Like:

       1. Elena whining about having her grieving down to a science. Apparently you don't, at least not in a healthy way. To be honest I miss Switch Off Elena that would get all Katherine on everyone. Speaking of which I miss that bitch. I hear that she may come back so Nina Dobrev may yet get to play her favorite Doppelgänger once more.

Grow a pair, Stefan and compel yourself a raise.

       2. Ripper Stefan, angry Stefan, give me any of those but this new Stefan? Boring! He's a vampire but he's taking crap from a human boss who's cutting his pay checks? I don't care if you're a blood addict, Stefan, compel yourself some zeros so you can take out your new human girlfriend.

Please bring Damon back!

       3. Caroline's a neurotic, control freak and high school allowed an outlet for her but now she's dropped out of school and putting her anal powers to looking up ways to get back into Mystic Falls without going up in flames. Season's 3 and 4, when the show was in it's prime, Caroline was a sort of bad ass. Okay I'll admit that Caroline needs to fall once in a while but hopefully this is a temporary set back.

I feel safer already with Ferguson on the case

        4. Tyler is an annoying jock again. He still has the werewolf gene and a hair trigger temper so he could become a werewolf again and be less of a jerk. I will say this, Tyler is still a loyal friend. I feel like he and Elena should have a drunken one night stand because he's the only boy within her group of friends (excluding Jeremy and Alaric) that she hasn't slept with yet.

Why is he chaperoning a college party?
They have security for that

         5. The Wonder Twins are still hanging around. I thought for sure that Elena or Caroline would have killed them. I'm still not a fan of Liz although in the season 5 finale she was willing to keep her promise to get all of the Mystic Falls crew out of purgatory until her twin brother shut it all down. So now Luke is Elena's slave basically because he feels so guilty. I feel like Liz and Tyler will hook up. Please no.

         6. Enough with the couples crap! It seems like the show is centering more about the couples more than anything else. Give us some blood, sex, and good old fashioned B-Horror violence!

TVD needs to get back to it's roots. I feel like since the Originals left, the show has been floundering. That shouldn't happen. The show did well even before the Originals came to town so I think they relied too much on their amazing energy and cutting edge storyline letting the TVD storyline suffer. Here's hoping that the season will improve over the course of the season. The show was signed for 6 seasons so this would be around the time that the executives of The CW will be discussing contracts.
