Constantine: More A Dabbler Than Master

I'm not that familiar with the DC Comics Universe except when it comes to Batman and Superman. Also most people remember the film of the same name starring Keanu Reeves but the Constantine as shown by NBC wants to stick close to the dark content of the anti-hero as much as they can.

We'll never see her again. Eh that's fine with me

The Pilot was a bit spotty. That's all you can say really and some of the characters while intriguing didn't hold up. Lucy Griffiths who played Liv although very pretty didn't seem like she could be tangible enough of a character that an audience would get emotionally attached to or at least root for. So once her character left that was it; we'll never see her again. However, all of that was overshadowed by the charisma of Matt Ryan who blazes on screen as the troubled, wise cracking Constantine.

"Manny" is the worst name for an angel

Immediately once you see John Constantine in action you are amazed but even before as he was in a session with his psychiatrist you were curious about him and wanted to know more. You also kind of feel bad for him making you cheer for him despite the fact that you don't know what you're cheering for. Matt Ryan brings a fiery (literally) enthusiasm to his character that makes you forget some of the Pilot's short comings. His whole look with the trench coat, the loose tie reminded me of our favorite wayward angel Castiel from the long running show Supernatural. In fact I think Matt Ryan claimed he based his look off of Castiel. Whether or not he did doesn't matter. What does matter is the way Ryan carries himself which gives you hope for the series. You can practically build this show around Matt Ryan. He makes it worth sticking around after Grimm.

So that's why he keeps the lighter...
It seems that everyone's getting into angels and demons lately but what do you expect? Aliens, zombies, vampires, and werewolves are playing out almost becoming white noise. With shows like Supernatural and Dominion, Constantine feels like it's standing out in the crowd but then again it's NBC so we'll see if Matt Ryan can carry this show to a season 2.

"You're pointing that thing the wrong way, love."
