Why Almost Human Should Be Renewed

A story about a Man & his Robot
I have been hearing horrible rumors about Almost Human being close to the chopping block. Not fair! FOX has no idea how great a gem they have. Not only does this show appeal to fans of Fringe but a science fiction procedural cop show like this is fresh and breaks away from the boring old cop show pack. Almost Human should be given a chance. Here's what I love about the show:

She's a petite psychic on a good day.

1. Karl Urban and Michael Ealy have amazing chemistry. There's nothing more endearing than a man with his dog, but a man and his robot has taken it to a whole other level. John Kennex and Dorian balance each other's personalities so well. One minute they are serious cops and the next they bicker and poke fun at each other like brothers. There's a bond here that viewers find magnetic and what I think is the strongest element of the show. Even more so the conversations in the cruiser. That's probably a fan favorite because whatever the topic you can't leave so you're stuck and have to be confronted with the situation. Dorian and John's little convos give us more insight into their partnership and how strong their bond is growing.

No one insults my DRN but me!

It's Police Ken Doll...

Even by themselves, John and Dorian are engaging. John hides behind his sarcasm and snide remarks but he does feel. He hates giving bad news to someone, a shoulder to cry on for close friends, and a very dedicated cop who isn't a cop just because he idolizes his cop dad but because he can't stand people taking advantage or hurting other people. In "Are You Receiving", John ignored Maldonado's order to leave the building. He also comforted a hostage even telling her his middle name: Reginald (because his dad was an Elton John fan).

"Maybe you should come in this time."

Dorian is a synthetic with a bleeding heart. Because of his synthetic soul program, Dorian has a human vulnerability that allows him to bond and connect with people. However, he also has a child-like naivety that not only leads to comic relief but also to him learning new things that makes him better understand humanity. Dorian's ignorance about the whole death thing was like explaining it to a kid. I loved it when Dorian comforted Maya (a psychic who could hear dead people by touching what they touched) and in the end gave her comfort and closure by helping her reconnect with her parents.

"50 Shades of Purple!"
Even the title Almost Human is a perfect description of these characters. John has a synthetic leg and has a hard heart for anything and Dorian is a robot but feels like a human. It shows that you don't need flesh and blood to be human; all you need is a soul and Kennex and Dorian certainly have one.

Watch Rudy work his magic.

And we can't forget the supporting characters. Rudy has to be one of my favorites. He's awkwardly sweet but he has a passion for his work and a very good heart. I loved when he went under cover in "The Bends" as a cook. Rudy has those James Bond fantasies (who doesn't?) but even though he was almost killed, Rudy still wanted to go on another under cover investigation.

Rudy is awkward but good hearted.

Detective Valerie Stahl may seem sweet but she's got a hard center and can keep up with the boys. I do wish i knew more about her though. Detective Richard Paul seems like... well a real "Dick" who likes to poke the bear and I'll admit that I love it when John or Stahl match his little stabs and get the last word. Still Paul is a good police officer who only wants to be in the lime light sometimes. Then there's Captain Maldonado. I'll admit I was on the fence about her for a while but she began to grow on me. A male police chief wouldn't have fit. To be honest it would have been a sausage fest. Maldonado has a soft spoken voice, even when she yells, but that doesn't make her less intimidating. If anything it allows people who don't know her to underestimate her and that's a grave mistake. In "Blood Brothers", Maldonado showed herself to be a very driven person who pushes to be get beyond the board. Like every woman, Maldonado has her insecurities but she doesn't let that ruin her day. I would like to learn more about the women of the department.

This captain means business.

2. I haven't seen much of Fringe but I have noticed that both it and Almost Human love looking into the strange and unnatural. A legion of sex-bots, a procedure that allows you to communicate with the dead, and cloning? You can't get that anywhere else!

"Freeze!"
Since the show takes place in 2048, some of the technology or scientific hypothesis are described as still experimental. You can get rid of your memories by "scrubbing" your brain (very Total Recall). Ingestible trackers, although the wire inserted in your body sounds painful. Clones are not made in a tube but in a womb and the perfect flower is made through laser technology. Sex-bots decreased women in the sex trade by 38%, which is a desired number for today. Yet my favorite has to be the phones in your hand. You just hit something then a screen shows in your hand. That way you never lose your phone! But inserting it must hurt.

This cadaver is like a puzzle.
And you can't have all these police force androids without at least one crazy homicidal one. DRNs and even MXs are cool but it can be boring, also they're all dudes. Adding a soldier robot that's a hot female wearing fish nets and carrying grenades should boost ratings among male viewers just as John and Dorian bring in female viewers.

When is Apple gonna get on this phone in your hand?

"I'm great with kids, really."

3. The mysteries are what draw me in. The mystery of what lies beyond the Wall and the plans of Insyndicate. I love mysteries and conspiracy theories as they have twists and turns that you don't see coming. So it would really be a shame to cancel this show because there's so much you can do with this setting. The many threads of this show that you can play with and surprise you as nothing is really what it seems.

We gotta tweet this!
I'm sure other fans can give their own reasons for wanting Almost Human to get a few more seasons. I see great potential in it becoming a cult series like Fringe or Supernatural. FOX is not really a channel I watch except for Sleepy Hollow and now Almost Human as my 8 pm Monday time slot was too much time to wait for just one show. So for fans who want to help the show make sure you tweet live when the show airs and hash tag Almost Human with all of those tweets, go to Facebook and like the show's page, and stream episodes on the FOX website or on Hulu.
