TVD: What If Elijah Had Killed Klaus?

"In the name of our family, Niklaus..."

                  "What ifs" are so much fun to think about and I have been thinking of more "what ifs" for The Vampire Diaries. So I came up with this one: What if Elijah had Killed Klaus in Season 2?

Remember when we first met Elijah?

             We didn't know then that killing an Original meant everyone in their bloodline would die with them and being that all of our heroes are descended from Klaus it would have basically cut the cast in half (that's by my count, there would have been so many characters gone). The show would just be about Elijah then wouldn't it? But still I wonder...

The Stelena ship would have taken longer

            If Elijah had ripped out Klaus's heart then Bonnie would have survived (she did anyway but you know what I mean) and since Jonathan gave his life force to Elena she would have been revived and remain human. Seeing the Salvatore brothers dead would have really messed Elena up too. She would have been inconsolable I think but maybe Bonnie could have helped her cope. Caroline would also be dead as well as Katherine (but no loss there right? but Caroline had gotten better as a vampire). Taking out the Salvatore Brothers would actually have opened Elena's love life to more options.

I doubt Elena would have resisted those muscles 

            For one thing, Tyler was in love with Caroline and if she had died with Stefan and Damon, then I think Tyler and Elena would have bonded sharing in each other's grief. I even think they would have tried a romance. I actually wish they did have a romance because they didn't really have a lot of screen time together and it would have been interesting to see the nature of their relationship. They did grow up together and obviously Tyler cared enough about Elena not to let her be killed by the werewolves who wanted to break the faux sun and moon curse. Then there's Matt. Maybe he and Elena would have given it another shot, but I doubt it. As for Bonnie and Jeremy they probably would have stayed their course. Maybe they would have broken up? Maybe not. 

Their romance would have continued on its rocky path

            But Jeremy can see ghosts! So he would have been talking to Damon, Stefan, and Caroline. That could have caused some awkward situations and the Salvatore drama between Elena and the Salvatore brothers would have continued on a bit until Stefan and Damon decided to leave Elena in peace and let her move on with her life. 

Oh Writers! You're such teases!

           What about Elijah? Well... we know how family oriented Elijah is. I don't think killing his own brother would have brought him any peace and he would feel more alone than ever. He would probably stayed in Mystic Falls and start a romance with someone: Elena or Liz maybe or even Tyler's mom Carol (possibly you never know). Even though Elijah prefers a solitary life because he feels those he lets into his heart end up getting hurt, but we also know that he can't help himself when it comes to wearing his heart on his sleeve. Elijah is also very charming so he would have no problem when it comes getting the ladies. 

"Cheers to what could have been"

          All in all, the show would still have been pretty boring without half of our vampire heroes (yes even Katherine would have been missed). While I understand the show is basically centered around Elena and the love triangle between her and the Salvatore Brothers, that doesn't mean (as we have recently viewed) that one or both of them couldn't be killed off at any time. I do believe that had the writers killed off these characters they would have found a supernatural way to bring them back and we'd still end up where we are now. The only thing that would have really changed would be that there probably would never have been a spin-off! I would never have allowed that! So this "what if" was kind of scary to think about.
