Anyone wanna play War Craft instead? |
Although this episode opened some old wounds for me, I still managed to pick out my favorite scenes for this amazing episode "Disrupt".
"Gotta keep those sex bots clean" |
1. Every scene where John comes up with a crazy excuse for Detective Paul's absence which turns out was because he was taking his mom to Mexico for her birthday. The excuses John gave just kept getting funnier. My favorite was about getting an infection from a sex bot. I guess when a sex bot says "I passed all my tests I'm clean" you have to be absolutely sure they did.
2. Dorian was complaining that Rudy invaded his personal space and after John's repeated jokes about Detective Paul's absences, Dorian wanted to defend Paul's privacy. Of course John saw through this as Dorian projecting his own feelings about the issue. Sometimes we forget that unlike the MX's, Dorian needs to be treated with more empathy and as such respect his personal space, allowing him some privacy. Then John explained in a cool guy manner that's why he chooses to live alone. Yeah, John, it's not because maybe you have trust issues. Understandable for John given that Anna not only bugged his apartment she also invaded his life; John shared personal things with her and after such a betrayal of trust, no one would want to share their personal space again. Being inside someone's home is probably more intimate than sex because with sex you just share a physical body but being allowed into someone's home is like being inside that person's soul, seeing their passions, their memories; sharing personal space is a whole new level of trust which is why most couples who think of moving in with each other take that very seriously.
"Damn, now I feel like an asshole." |
3. We all know that John can be an ass; sometimes to point out a flaw in their logic to throw them off their game but Kay Stenson shut John down right away with a story from her past. She was assaulted (I assume sexually) when she was 15, which is the reason she got into home security. But killer lasers are a bit much don't you think? It may be because she was assaulted and the trauma has caused her to go extreme but she could have just gone with stun guns, giving the house time to call the police. You don't need laser guns because as we've seen, sometimes trespassers are just stupid kids. But to see John actually feel like an ass instead of just being one was quite a sight to see.
"I've been having weird dreams" |
4. I know it hurts to think we may never know the truth behind Dorian's human memories, but I still like the scene where Dorian opens up to John about how he's been having dreams; memories of being a child even though he was never a child. Dorian always wants John to confided in him like a partner but he also needs to show that he could confide in John when he needed. This was a show of mutual trust between John and Dorian.
He's the Rock Star with Girl with the Dragon Tattoo |
5. John and Valerie go under cover as hackers and I loved it! John wearing leather and guy liner was quite a laugh as both he and Valerie expected a real rave but instead landed in a quiet den where hackers partook in virtual reality. You can't get STDs in the virtual world. Then John topped off the outfit with a British/Aussie accent going British rock star. I wish Valerie Stahl was in the field more; she had on a purple wig giving her mischievous pixie look. She seemed to emanate a new dark aura and I could barely recognize her from the empathetic, sweet but tough detective we were used to.
6. We didn't get enough scenes with just Rudy and Dorian; both are calm, quiet personalities and Rudy doesn't treat Dorian like an android to be thrown away. Before Dorian was recommissioned, Rudy would wake Dorian up. Rudy really was a lonely guy with few people who understood him and I think it was nice for him to find someone who was also an outcast. Dorian forgives Rudy for invading his privacy and says he considers them friends and so Rudy didn't need to keep things from him. This relationship opens up a new person for Dorian to confide in besides John, expanding his social circle.
Aaron's Social Network Mural |
7. This scene had little to do with John and Dorian but I was very touched by Aaron Casden's online tribute by the thousands of people he connected with online. His mother was sad and grieved hard because she felt no one got a chance to know her son even more so because the defense lawyer of Synturion painted Aaron as a criminal. But seeing that wall of her son's photo made up of all the people who cared about Aaron made me a little misty.
We're getting close to the end and it hurts but I love this show nonetheless and next Favorite Scenes will be "Beholder" then (cries a little) "Straw Man".
