The Messengers: A House Divided Review

This town is way too small

Just when you think you've stopped the Apocalypse and relax. While the Messengers were recovering with hangovers, Leland breaks his seal. Vera was perhaps the only one willing to keep on fighting while everyone else was heading for the hills. Quitters! But you can't run from Fate.

How did she get up there...?  Strange fruit indeed

Looks homey. Not creepy, horror asylum at all

    Honor Thy Mother & Father

Don't know about you but this episode was heavy with origins and who your parents are. Peter and Koa drive off in a very nice car in search of Peter's mother, Anne Moore. Unfortunately it led them to an abandoned insane asylum. Peter's mother apparently was suicidal (family trait) and they took him away from her so Anne ended her life. Poor Peter. He did find out where his father lived but Peter has grown up in such a short amount of time. He realized that his selfish need to know his birth parents would only put his father and his family at risk. Peter already has a family though not by blood. At first he accused them of all abandoning each other, but didn't Peter do the same thing? Vera was willing to fight and he could have stayed with her but Peter figured his blood family would be a better option.

Hello, Third Wheel

I got a job. Happy?

Meanwhile Nadia runs into some issues with her own blood family. Just when Raul and Erin were about to drive on to Alaska, Gabriela returns wanting to take Nadia but being a stubborn teenager, Nadia refuses to live with "the woman who ruined" her life. Funny how she managed to forgive Raul after claiming he ruined her life. Raul of all people had called Gabriela. Not surprisingly this put a damper on his plans with Erin. But I like how Nadia decided to take control of her life instead of sit around moping. She got a job and had her future all planned out. We find out something else: Raul is Nadia's real father. Anyone besides me not surprised by that truth bomb? Being a stand up guy, I don't think Raul would take the memory of Nadia's father away from her. He's happy just being her uncle.

Never hide your adultery photos where people can find them!
Adultery 101!

I'm a dad... really?

Vera finally tells Leo about their son. Needless to say Leo was pissed but to be fair he chose not to tell her about his disease so they're kind of even. But Leo didn't stay mad long. He becomes sympathetic and contrite once he realized that Vera had to deal with this painful experience by herself. Perhaps with fresh eyes they can work together. Which leads us to perhaps the worst parents: Jeff and Kay Fairburn, the people who abducted Michael.

I would be thrilled to find a hot guy on my door step

So the Devil makes house calls

Of course they didn't take him themselves but they made a deal with The Man knowing full well where the child came from. They were struggling to conceive but were having no luck. So when The Devil offered them a child Jeff figured "the hell with it". I have to admit I liked watching Satan taunt the Fairburns, making them twist in the wind. They deserved that much. Jeff was supposed to be The Man's spy on Joshua so they know full well that Michael's real mother is a Messenger, I assume. That makes them even worse. Don't get me wrong I feel sorry for Jeff and Kay but how could two people call themselves parents when they knowingly caused another parent so much agony and heartache by robbing her of her child, a feeling they're starting to understand very well now.

Was kinda hoping you were those girl scouts selling cookies

    Preacher's A Rolling Stone

Out of all the Messengers, Joshua probably fell the hardest. After discovering that Leland broke his seal he threw his hands up and said, "Screw it! Why bother?" Joshua falls off the wagon and buries himself in drugs. His wife's still in the hospital right? Glad she wasn't there to see him especially since he ripped into Vera for her own short comings. Jerk. Yet opportunity sometimes knocks when you least expect it. A fancy lawyer, Jeff Fairburn, shows up at Joshua's door offering money and a chance to run the church. Vera should have offered money because Joshua sobered up and made sure to get to himself to the church on time.

I knew lawyers worked for the Devil

All he needs is a black guitar

But with sobriety comes clarity. Just as Joshua was basking in the light of his rock star status, Vera's words echoed in his head. Joshua realized he couldn't lie for a living. I suppose he felt like he would have turned into his father and figured being a Messenger was a much more noble profession though a thankless one. Thought Peter was the only one seeing that strange old lady but she meets Joshua at the super market and gives him some final words of encouragement. Turns out she was a Messenger back in the day. It's always nice to talk to someone who's been through what you've been going through.

Thanks for playing but we don't need you anymore

His wings are bigger than your wings

The Devil You Know Never to Cross

After dealing out some surprise visits, The Man gets his own rude surprise visit. He finds the two Horseman together like conspirators, in fact, that's what they were doing. Richards and Leland figured that they didn't need the Devil to start the Apocalypse after he failed so many times before. Are they insane? Also is wearing black a required color once you turn evil? The Man didn't expect his own team mates would try and oust him from his own devious plan. How dare they! The Man looked like he was going to cry a little. He does not take rejection well. He doesn't take rejection at all as he erupted in anger. The Horsemen looked pretty taken aback. They may have wings, but the Devil's are bigger and he's been around since God turned the lights on so you know he's got the power. I suspect the Horsemen know who's running this Apocalypse show now.

Who knew angels were such whiny bitches

The Messengers came together once again. Not only that but Vera has a clue to where her son may be. Seriously is Amy a prophet or what? Next episode turns out the Messengers have been following a False Prophet. Rose is not who she seems and The Devil tries to tempt the Messengers with a deal.
