Agents of SHIELD: SkyeWard Closure & Agents of HYDRA

We can't shake Ward's ghost but here it wasn't as painful. Last episode we got some closure on the SkyeWard ship and the Agents of HYDRA arc has to be the best of the series.

Coulson makes his own soap...

SkyeWard Closure

They still make a good team

In the world of "what if" it felt like a gut punch. It gives us an image of what Ward would have been like had the right people gotten to him first like Victoria Hand (who in the real world Ward murdered because he was Garrett's puppet). We knew there was good in Ward but it was crushed and twisted into something ugly that turned him into a monster. If someone had given him a chance things would have turned out differently. Even in this dark world inside the Framework, Skye and Ward are together and they end up on opposite sides.

Daisy looks like she's about to jump out of her skin

On to my favorite scene though: Ward and Daisy talk about him and the ending of their farce of a relationship. It's something they were denied in the real world. Daisy just handed Ward over to his abusive brother and shot him after he tried to help her. That didn't give any of us (those who shipped them) any closure! Things were still rotten between them then Ward was possessed by Hive and that ended worse. This conversation between Ward and Daisy was long overdue even if it wasn't with the real Ward.

This was a toxic shadow of SkyeWard

Again it's like a gut punch because this was the Grant Ward we always wanted but never got. This Ward is not only a loyal SHIELD agent but we see his good traits used for a force of good. Ward was always devoted and loyal to those closest to him but in the Framework his love wasn't toxic that hurt people. Ward was always a soldier but that part of him drove his need in some ways like when he still saw himself as part of the SHIELD team after he started telling them HYDRA secrets. He still acted as their attack dog even when they hunted him. It was only when Daisy shot him that Ward was finally disillusioned and turned on them.

When Framework Ward asked, "When you go back to the real world... do I get my Skye back." Daisy was genuinely sad for him. It makes me wish we could keep this Ward (and take Trip back with us). Whatever happens at least Ward and Daisy were given the closure on their romance which is deserved because they started out so great I felt terrible that it ended so horribly between them on opposite sides after all they've been through together.

Aida just wants to be a real girl...

Agents of HYDRA

Agents of SHIELD just keep getting better. I admit it started out a little cartoonish but as it went on it delved deeper into more emotional more poignant story lines which are the hallmarks of super hero shows and movies; reflecting society in a way that doesn't sound preachy but is inspiring.

This Fitz is cold blooded

But this Agents of HYDRA story arc has clenched my heart because our sweetest most noble character Fitz has turned into such a monster! He's the Nazi doctor in love with Aida who wants to be a real girl and bring people in the Framework into the real world. Fitz's character change in this "what if" world is due to his father being in his life where in our world he's a dead beat dad. Fitz has sort have turned into Real World Grant Ward where his motives are twisted by some funhouse mirror image sense of justice. Remember when Fitz found out that Daisy was Inhuman? He hid her test results to protect her because he didn't want the team to lock her up. But this Fitz sees Inhumans as a cancer on society. At least May was able to return to SHIELD, but Fitz is in the clutches of a cold, overbearing father and a sadistic android witch and we need Jemma to get to him because I feel like maybe she can bring him back.

Mack may have to reinvent the Shotgun Axe

This arc is heart wrenching and terrifying. We lost Mason but found Trip and I want them to use Aida's new matter making machine and bring him into the real world along with Mack's daughter, Hope. Unlike Ward who found out he's living in the Matrix and reluctantly accepts it, Mack still thinks the Framework is the real world. I don't know if he'll want to come back without his daughter. Seriously when you have a machine that transports and creates matter it opens like a thousand possibilities for character resurrections!

Why must you kill my heroes!?

ABC needs to renew Agents of SHIELD because it gets better with each new season. I feel like we need it more than ever given the state of our country and the world. Last episode threw some heavy shade at the Trump Administration and I seriously need shows like that. We all do! It shows us that no matter how bleak the world is there's always hope and rebellion to fight for us and bring us back into the light.
