Supergirl: Stop Calling Mon-El Abusive!

  Okay I understand why Kara broke up with Mon-El and I respect her for it (even though I disagree full heartedly) but what I don't understand are people calling Mon-El abusive or the Karamel ship toxic. Sure Mon-El lied to Kara about his identity but his fears were understandable. It just burns me up that people would say such things! If you don't like Mon-El that's fine but calling him abusive is a step too far! Here's the criteria for what classifies as an abusive relationship:

Kara is Supergirl. She doesn't let anyone push her around

1. tell you they cannot live without you (*Nope)

2. blame you for all their problems (*Hell no)

3. break or hit things to intimidate you (*Pffth as if)

4. threaten to hurt themselves or others if you break up (*No)

5. act jealous, say jealous things, or forbid you to speak with certain people (*There are healthy displays of jealousy. Only when it's constant is it alarming. Mon-El was jealous of Myxy but didn't forbid Kara from speaking to him and he hasn't shown jealousy since)

6. pressure you into having sex or force you to do sexual things you don't want to do by saying, "if you really loved me you would..." (*God no)

7. humiliate you and belittle your opinions (*Mon-El disagrees with Kara but he doesn't belittle her opinion)

8. slap or shove you in a seemingly playful way, but it happens often and doesn't seem right (*Kara could throw Mon-El through a wall. The first time he caught her by surprise and he just woke up from a coma so I'd react like that too)

9. seem jealous and possessive about the time you spend with your friends (*No)

10. constantly check up on you and ask where you are and what you are doing (*Mon-El gives Kara plenty of space)

11. have severe mood swings or frequent bad moods (*He's happy a lot of the time)

12. want you to limit your other activities so you can spend more time together (*Mon-El bows to Kara's schedule and doesn't push)

13. want your relationship to get too serious too quickly and refuse to take "no" for an answer (*Nope)

14. blame past bad relationships on everything or everybody else instead of accepting any of the responsibility (*Mon-El takes full responsibility for being a womanizing jerk)

15. abuses drugs or alcohol and pressure you to take them also, even if you don't want to (*No)

16. believe men should be in control and women should do what they're told (*Mon-El believed that most women were damsels in distress but he learned that women are capable of handling themselves.)

17. treat you like property rather than a person they value (*Hell no!)

Look at the tenderness between them

    You know who does fit the 17 criteria? Bella and Edward from Twilight. And for those who love 50 Shades of Grey (*gag*) Christian and Anastasia also meet that criteria because the book started out as Twilight fan fiction! Kara dumped Mon-El but he still stayed on Earth because together or not Supergirl inspires him to be a better person and he wants to continue working with her. You can go ahead and celebrate that Mon-El and Kara are over but don't cite a reason for the break up as Mon-El being abusive or controlling. Kara is too smart and too much self esteem to get into that kind of relationship and it's an insult to her character for someone to suggest such a thing. Kara is not only a strong super hero she's a strong young woman. Give her more credit, will ya?

Grimm: Nadalind Is Officially Endgame (For Me)

   Grimm is almost over (which makes me sad every time I say it) but "Where the Wild Things Were" had a great scene between Nick and Eve. As a shipper for Nick and Adalind I was concerned when Eve started to feel that she would try to get Nick back or go back to being bad but her speech dispelled those fears. Though there are rumors that Nick and Adalind's romance may have a bitter end. I hope it's not true!!!

Eve has regrets but wouldn't change them

    When Eve and Nick were hunting down the big evil Wesen skull guy (I honestly can't remember its name because a lot of the Wesen species are hard to spell let alone pronounce) they came to the weird stone henge and Eve told Nick that she didn't regret meeting him or him not breaking it off with her sooner. The path they took was perilous but she wouldn't trade it for anything. She also mentioned that when they were together they both only knew the small part of Nick, his human self. It may not have worked out for Juliette and Nick but Eve isn't resentful. 

Can you believe they wanted to kill each other?

   I have mentioned something similar to what Eve said about Nick and Juliette not working out. It wasn't that they didn't love each other. Nick took his transformation with better stride than Juliette took with hers. Granted Juliette becoming a hexenbeist was much more terrifying but still her love for Nick wasn't strong enough to prevent the fallout between them. Juliette and Nick evolved and grew and they tried to make their relationship grow as well but it hit a point where the strains of the Wesen world were too much for them to keep hold of each other. Yes it was a terrible break up but bad things do happen for a reason although it doesn't feel like it at the time.

   Nick and Adalind started out as the worst of enemies. How ironic that one of Nick's greatest enemies became the mother of his son and now the love of his life. It was a major dark twist of events that led to Nick becoming a father and finding happiness again. I was concerned when Nick called Eve "Juliette" again when she was taken to the hospital. Did that mean old feelings were resurfacing? But we know that when Nick falls in love with someone he's all in. Nick hasn't told Adalind "I love you" but then Eve told Nick "You're in love with Adalind." He asked "Why would you ask me that?" Then she responded "It wasn't a question." This is verbatim but the message is clear. 

Please let them all live happily ever after!

   Despite all the bad things that happened, in Eve's mind it all worked out. Nick is a happy father and has found love again and he has the support of his friends. Nick's feelings for Eve are ones of responsibility because he once loved Juliette and it was because of him that she turned into a monster. But I feel like Eve has redeemed herself. Yet I've had a nagging feeling ever since I've heard a rumor that Nadalind may have a bitter end to their romance. Again I hope it's not true because I would prefer to have a nice wrap up of the series with no loose ends to leave me wondering (or crying in a fetal position if Nick and Adalind's relationship heads south!)...  I hope they all live happily ever after.

Supergirl: Mon-El & Kara A Super Ship

   Getting really tired of a lot of people ragging on Mon-El not just as a character but as Kara's new boyfriend. Some don't like him because of his character while others think Kara is losing her status as a powerful woman by letting herself be in love. Whatever your stance I'm going to list why Mon-El and Kara make a Super Ship...

1. Mon-El Is Not A Weak Character!

        Chris Wood has become one of my favorite CW actors. He can play a psycho or a good guy but in both cases he still gives the character a sense of humor which entertains me. And Mon-El I think is what you would call a "cave-man playboy turned good boyfriend". Even though he could be misogynist and clueless about women deep down we see that he truly is a good guy making his transformation into a hero much more endearing. He actually wanted to change for Kara as well as himself which brings me to our next discussion...

2. Mon-El is inspired by Supergirl

     I saw on Twitter someone tweeting Mon-El and Kara fighting with the tag: YOU'RE MORE POWERFUL THAN ME AND I FIND THAT THREATENING! First of all, Mon-El was drawn to Kara's strength in character and spirit more than her super powers not threatened by them. Her real super power is her indomitable spirit. Mon-El preferred to keep his head down and out of trouble but watching Kara save the world, care and protect people inspired him to want to become better. Isn't that the goal of feminism? Where a powerful woman not only inspires other women but men as well? Mon-El is attracted to Kara's sense of heroism and independence. How she seems to be able to do it all.

3. Kara being in love doesn't diminish her power

      Even Super Women need a shoulder to cry on. True before they got romantically involved Kara had to teach Mon-El that she doesn't need a big man to come to her rescue. She even said, "I am not a damsel in distress I am Supergirl! I can handle myself!" Kara doesn't need a boyfriend but she like all super heroes need to have a support system whether it's romantic or platonic. It's not just a woman thing, men too feel that same romantic loneliness. And Mon-El is very supportive of Kara. Kara posted her blog exposing Cadmus's alien deportation plan despite her editor's orders not to and Mon-El said, "If you want to post that blob (he meant blog) then go ahead" because he could already see that she wanted to and he's learned that Kara will risk everything to save lives. Kara seeks advice to her problems not a fixer and Mon-El is a sympathetic ear as well as a shoulder to cry on whenever Kara's feeling weak or unsure. That's a woman's ideal relationship isn't it? To have someone who listens and supports them? Love doesn't weaken you, it makes you stronger. Second of all, stop calling it an abusive relationship. There is nothing to indicate that Kara is being abused. She can walk away any time she wants. Kara has incredible self esteem; if she views someone is being unnessacarily cruel or malicious in a relationship then she's done. Bella & Edward are in an abusive relationship (they've met the 17 criteria; I'm not kidding). Don't EVER compare the two!

      When Kara said, "Maybe being Supergirl and having you is enough" She wasn't saying she didn't need a career. She loves being Supergirl and having a guy who supports her in everything she does, who makes her laugh and hugs her when she's sad. Mon-El and Kara aren't perfect but no relationship ever is. A powerful woman falling in love feels different from a powerful man falling in love. A woman doing a "man's job" is judged more harshly when things go wrong and a woman in a romantic relationship is sometimes seen as weak (in the eyes of women I found mostly...). For me that's the opposite! Love makes everyone vulnerable no matter their gender.

Haters gonna hate. Let them hate I love this ship!

 Whether you're a Supergirl or a Superman, relationships shouldn't be off limits. I can't change everyone's minds about Mon-El but I just wanted to get my feelings out there. Mon-El and Kara will have a rough road ahead but I think they can make it over the hurdles together.

TVD: Favorite Things About TVD That I'll Miss

       This is the last season of The Vampire Diaries. I didn't think I'd love it so much but I did. So many cherished memories of "wow", "awwww", and "OMG!". But what made TVD so great?

1. The Sass

      There have been quite a few sassy remarks by every character. How else are you going to deal with all the death and misery in the supernatural world but greet it with dry humor? To me Damon is the King of Sass. Though the one with the most snark is the one who feels the deepest so they hide behind a mask of sarcasm.

2. The Relationships

     The chemistry between the cast is so thick you could pair off anybody and they have sort of... I found it funny that Elena and Tyler never dated or flirted or... anything really. The beauty of the TVD and TO universe is that enemies or total strangers can become intimate. We all thought Elena and Stefan were the example of "Love Conquers All" but turns out they weren't meant to be. Even ships like Klaus and Elena were a brief possibility and I feel like it would have worked! And it wasn't just romantic relationships. Bonnie and Damon and Alaric started out as bitter enemies. Even Liz who hunted down vampires became one of Damon's closest friends. He even gave her eulogy. Damon turned Alaric's wife but they became drinking buddies. Bonnie tried to kill Damon plenty of times but now he's her best friend! Total 180! Now I blush every time Damon calls Bonnie "Bon Bon". Oh yeah. Relationships are complicated on TVD. I think there's even a relationship web somewhere online depicting this complicated network.

3. Family Drama

      All shows have a bit of family drama but this show? It is king of all family dramas. Siblings at each other's throats. Parents trying to kill their children and vice versa. Not just vampire family drama but also the typical human mama-papa drama. Elena had a pretty rough relationship with her biological father who in the end redeemed himself by sacrificing his own life for Elena. And no matter how much discord there is between Stefan and Damon they will always sacrifice big for each other. Damon gave up the only thing that could probably kill the Devil for Stefan's life even though a day ago he tried to kill Elena. Now that's a brother.

     We've been through hell with our TVD Family. Through evil vampires, crazy witches, psycho vampire hunters, aggressive werewolves to new threats like hybrids, immortal psychics, doppelgängers, and vampire witches we've lost a few along the way but I feel the core of this twisted adopted family of unlikely friends has come out stronger than ever. There were so many moments of TVD that I can't name them all in just one blog! Comment below to me your favorite moments from any of the 8 seasons of The Vampire Diaries.

TVD: Stefan's Human! What's Next?

    Stefan becoming a human is something I never considered until I saw it! Poor Enzo though I had a feeling he'd die. A few questions of what is going to happen next...

Will Bonnie Forgive Stefan?

      Bonnie always gets the stick. The one time she's incredibly happy it all gets taken away from her! Of course that's the theme of the TVD/TO universe. Chances are Stefan is going to return to his human empathetic self again and realize what he did and was about to do to Elena. Will Bonnie forgive Stefan for killing the love of her life? From what I can gather from this group's history, they can hurt each other physically and emotionally but always seem to forgive each other no matter the sin. I could see Bonnie giving Stefan the cold shoulder. And Stefan will do anything to try and make it right.

Caroline has grown so much since high school

      Definitely. Caroline seemed pretty determined to get Stefan back. Though this changes my ending fantasy a little. But it works out perfectly! Stefan and Caroline could get married. Stefan grows old and dies leaving Caroline to pursue Klaus. Her foster children could come and visit whenever Alaric is in town giving Stefan the family he always wanted but couldn't have because he was a ripper vampire. The Salvatore bloodline could also start up again if not with Stefan then with Damon once he takes the cure (which should still be play). Those concerned for vampires taking the cure and ending up like Katherine how taking the cure works is if a 100 year vampire takes the cure from someone then they're human but if another vampire takes the cure from that newly cured vampire then the first vampire ages rapidly then dies so we're good. 

Nostalgia's really a bitch

New Ending?

       I see a new ending where Damon is the last Salvatore vampire until Bonnie dies waking up Elena. Stefan will end up with Caroline. Bonnie's happy ending is still elusive but she has her best friend Damon to keep her company. One doesn't have to have a romantic ending to be happy. Matt is sheriff again in touch with his own family legacy so I see him continuing that bloodline with a few kids of his own. Elena is going to have so much exciting material to read of her friends' diaries when she wakes up!

Taboo: My Thoughts

   Anyone besides me got chills from the FX premiere of Taboo? Every scene mesmerized me (at least the scenes with Tom Hardy and not just because I'm physically attracted to him). It was dark in setting, raw and unapologetic in dialogue and characters and the actors were chosen well.

      How can you not love Tom Hardy? He makes you laugh, scares you, and melts your insides with his skills (and his voice let's not forget that). He does his best with dark, cynical characters grappling with emotional and mental issues. Tom plays James Keziah Delaney, basically a prodigal son return home for the funeral of his father only to find the East India Trading Company trying to muscle in on his inheritance. James is rough, disturbed and doesn't take shit. Though James puts up a front in his private moments he's barely holding it together. He sees the ghosts of his past and is haunted by demons from all the sins he committed for the East India Trading Company. Tom Hardy is spell binding in his role. He's got that intensity down and you can't help but be afraid as well as fascinated with him and his character. You know you shouldn't care for such a damned soul but you do because Tom Hardy lets you see some of James's vulnerabilities. He's a hard man but broken inside. He's an outsider and stranger in his homeland. Feral and yet controlled, walking a thin line between sanity and total madness.

     James also seems to have an unnatural love for his half-sister Zilpha. She says she's happily married but you can tell the opposite even before James crashes his father's funeral. There's a coldness there. But you can see why Zilpha's trying to convince not only James but herself it seems that James and Zilpha had surrendered to temptation to each other's and (my theory is) had a son prompting James to leave either by his own choice or because his father found out and banished him (well the show is called "Taboo" what's more taboo than incest?). And award for Biggest Dead Beat Dad goes to... James Delaney. He is confronted by his bastard son's foster father who complains he hasn't been paid for raising the kid for 10 years. James gives the foster family a sack of money for "past, present, and the future" that last word emphasized as James doesn't want to be bothered with this again.

     Still he takes a look at his kin (his son maybe). He doesn't want to meet him but is happy to just take a look once then never see him again. There is a tenderness there as James watches the boy doing chores. "Put some money aside for his future if he's rash... like me." Sort of a sadness you see in James followed by an immediate retreat back into his armor. Yet James won't apologize for being in love with his sister as he tells her at the wake, "One thing Africa didn't cure is that I still love you." That's going to be interesting especially since in the promo for future episodes Zilpha is on her half-brother's door step in the pouring rain one night. Hmmmm...

He's got that swagger

      The show's your basic classic revenge story with a supernatural twist. The overall setting is visually stunning with death/underworld imagery to paint the horrific picture. The opening sequence has a horror-movie aspect that draws you in with it's creepiness. The show uses disturbing imagery of dark, dirty alleyways, neglected mansions and crypts to sell the theme of Death which feels constant as we enter the underworld of London society. I feel the other theme is confronting one's sins. They catch up with you and the dead don't stay buried whether metaphorically or literally.

       This show has worked it's voodoo magic on me. I love Taboo! Tom Hardy, the cast and crew have done a wonderful job. Every part of this show will send cold chills creeping up your spine and tickle your love of thrillers (and Tom Hardy). 

Grimm: How Will It End?

    So this is the last season of NBC's Grimm. Seems unfair! I know I was happy that there were just 13 episodes left but I didn't think it would be the last season! I guess the time has come to stop beating around the bush and see who will win and who will die.

   Nadalind is ENDGAME

           For all those hoping that Nick and Juliette will work it out I'm not going to stomp on those wishes. BUT... I feel that Nick and Adalind are going to be the endgame of the show. I mean that kiss in "Fugitive" was like fire works going off! And Nick and Adalind have grown quite close since having a son together. Adalind is a different person than from the series premiere: she's a mother and I feel in Nick she's finally found a guy who respects her as well as loves her unlike Renard who treated her like crap. Adalind's own mother threw her out of the house when she lost her powers. Nick has given Adalind a home and Nick has someone he doesn't have to keep secrets about his identity from. "If Renard hurts you I'm going to kill him." ~Adalind "Well if he does kill me I wouldn't mind that." ~Nick. I can see Nick and Adalind having a home together with Kelly and Diana in the last episode.

Cheers to the strongest couple on the show

  Monroe & Rosalee Happy Family

         Monroe and Rosalee are having a baby! After escaping the sewers Monroe and Rosalee talked about maybe moving away from Portland seeing it's not a safe place to raise a kid. Um... is anywhere safe when you're a Wesen and friends with a Grimm? If they do move away I don't see them losing touch with Nick. Monroe and Nick have been through a lot together. Monroe and Rosalee met through Nick. They would probably call once in a while but if they don't move I see Kelly and Monroe and Rosalee's baby being best friends. If it's a girl they may even date... UGH! Why does it have to end? These kids are a treasure trove of new story lines! I'll leave that for fans and their fan fiction. Anyway I can't imagine Monroe and Rosalee not getting a happy ending. They are the strongest couple on the show.

  Renard Loses (Preferably He Dies)

          Renard has bounced around the spectrum of good guy and bad guy unable to choose a side. He wasn't my favorite person in season 4 (mostly because it felt like his character was a bit drab borderline pathetic) but now he's let his true colors show. He's ambitious but he also has some compassion which is why he's having an emotional break down. He's seeing blood on his hands, remembering how Meisner died and that he mercy killed him. Renard is frantic to place the blame on Nick for Bonaparte's death not only for his own sake but I think also for Diana's. Perhaps he's afraid that they'll kill her or worse she'll kill all of them. Renard is finally developing a healthy fear of his daughter. Now how will Renard be defeated? I actually hope Nick beheads him. It would be poetic in a way because Grimms and Zeigerbiests are natural enemies. Even though they worked together in the past to uphold the law in the Wesen community but that professional relationship soured and now they've reverted back to their initial instincts of distrust and violence. Grimms are known for beheading Wesen so having Renard's head on a platter sounds like perfect justice for me. Yet Nick is also a cop. It would also work if he puts Renard away for life. Besides it's not like Nick can just kill the new Mayor of Portland. Also Diana won't kill Nick for killing her dad if he just arrests him.

     I honestly feel like Adalind should bind Diana's powers if she can or maybe use Grimm blood to destroy the hexenbiest in her. Unless Diana's immune like Adalind now then yeah bind her powers. Diana has shown that children given such power is dangerous not only for their emotional well being but kids don't really understand right from wrong yet. Diana is just doing whatever she wants. All kids want their parents to stay together and get angry when someone hurts them. Diana saw Bonaparte and Renard's mistress as a threat to her "happy" home. I don't believe she hates Nick but I shudder to think what she'd do if she saw him kissing her mom. If Diana had her powers suppressed then she'd grow up as a better person as Adalind has sworn to do for her kids.

Wu had the best sarcasm to offer

  Sgt. Wu's Wild Man

        Wu isn't necessarily a Wesen but he's now a part of the community. If they don't find a cure for him then Wu can learn to control his inner wild man and be a better cop. I see him making detective maybe. He could definitely give better insight into the weird cases.

Hank should at least have a girlfriend.

  Hank's Happy Ending

       Hank has not had good luck with relationships on this show. But there was that one time when he came back from vacation where he ran into his ex-wife. I feel like that was a hint that maybe they would get back together for the series finale. Maybe Hank tells her about the Wesen world starting the relationship honest. I just want Hank to be happy. He deserves it!

Juliette gets a second chance. Use it wisely

         Now for Juliette. I admit I didn't like her character to start because she was so bland but she got more interesting when she was introduced to the Wesen world. Then when she became a hexenbiest WOW! I actually liked her even more when she got powers. I don't see her and Nick getting back together. There are just some things you can't come back from and helping people murder your boyfriend's mother is a big one. Though I think after being touched by that healing stick her soul was cleansed which may have in fact "cured" her of her hexenbiest because right now she can't wolge without having a seizure if at all. She can start over as anything she wants. If she's still a hexenbiest then she could do good by fighting evil wesen like Grimms do. I see her working for Hadrian's Wall for a long time in some other branch.

   Agent Trubel

          I feel Trubel would still work for Hadrian's Wall. I feel it's where she had the most purpose and where she felt most at home. Trubel did the most good for HW. And I see her keeping in touch with Nick and the gang. Maybe she'd baby sit on occasion. Who else is more qualified than a woman with a machete? 

Grimm is ending. Hold me!

      Grimm was such an amazing show. I can't believe it's ending. I was hoping it would go on for at least 7 seasons but I guess NBC wants to move on or just want something to rival Game of Thrones. Either way I'm happy to have been a fan of the show. Great costumes and twists and turns. They took the old fairytales and completely reimagined them! Well I hope all of our characters live happily ever after...
